World Religions

Christianity:
Christianity was founded around the year 30 AD.  It was founded in Palestine by the disciples of Jesus.  Christianity is monotheistic because we only believe in one God instead of polytheistic believing in more than one god.  The holy book for Christianity is the New Testament.  The New Testament is about and after Jesus was on Earth.  Christianity is the biggest religion worldwide.  There are about 2.1 billion Christians in the world.  The central figure for Christianity is Jesus Christ.  He is the Son of God who came down to save us from sins by dying on the cross. The geographical concentration of Christianity is mostly in North America, Europe, and southern Africa.

Islam:
Islam was founded around the year 632 AD.  It was founded in Mecca by Muhammed.  Islam is monotheistic because its district of faith requires belief in one and only god.  The holy book for Islam is the Quran.  It has individual sections explaining different times in Islam history.  Islam has a world population from 1.4 to 1.67 billion, about 25% of the world.  The central figure for the Islam religion is Allah, which is God in Arabic.  Islam is generally practiced in the Middle East,Northern Africa,Central Asia, South Asia, Western Africa, Indian subcontinent, Malay Archipelago with large population centers existing in Eastern Africa,Balkan Peninsula, Russia and China.  

Buddhism:
Buddhism was founded in the fourth or fifth century B.C. in northern India by a man known traditionally as Siddhartha.  Buddhism is monotheistic in the sense that all is god and god is all. Although there are many different Buddha figures, they all represent the same Buddha. The sacred book of Buddhism is called the Tipitaka. It is written in an ancient Indian language called Pali.There are about 350 million followers of Budhism in the world.  It is 6% of the world.  The central figure for Buddhism is the Buddha.  Buddhism is most practiced in the regions of East Asia, South East Asia and some parts of South Asia. 

Hinduism:
Hinduism was  founded in India around 1500-500 AD and this era of Hinduism is known as historic Vedic Hindu religion, while modern Hinduism started from 1700-1100 AD. Hinduism is monotheistic. It states that it is only one god, but take the place of many forms like one body with many different parts. Hinduism's holy book is called the Veda.  It includes hundreds of hymns addressed to various deities, as well as myths, some spells and a bit of philosophical speculation.  The number of followers ranges form 860 million to 1.4 billion in the world.  In the world, 13.78% of the population are Hindu.  

Judaism:
Judaism was founded around 2000 BC by Abraham.  He founded it in the land of Israel.  Judaism is monotheistic because they believe there is one and only god that created the world himself.  The Torah is the most holy book to Judaism. Torah means "teaching" and is God's revealed instructions to the Jewish people. There are between 12 and 14 million people following Judaism around the world. The most central figures in Judaism are Abraham, Moses, Isaac, Jacob and the other patriarchs; also the prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah, and others. Judaism is mostly practiced in the countries of Israel, and small pockets of North and South America, Europe and Asia.
