Cultural Geography: Ethnic Heritage and Religion
Today in class we talked about ethnic heritage and religion around the world. There are many different ethnic groups around the world. Sometimes different countries will merge their ethnic groups together. The United States and Switzerland have merged many different ethnic groups. Although, in Africa Rwanda and Burundi are the two main ethnic groups. They don't like each other because they both individually believe they should be the main ethnic group. They are constantly at war fighting for who should be the main ethnic group for Africa. Also, Korea and Japan share an ethnic group. They both only have one ethnic group. Also during class we talked about religion. Religion can be an unifying or dis-unifying force. Religion can bring people together, but it can also tear a community a part. It can bring people together for example that Christians come together for weddings and baptisms. It can also tear people apart for example if two different religions disagree on a topic they can get in a war. There are five main religions in the world. They are Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. We talked mostly about Christianity today in class. Christianity was founded after the death of Jesus. Christianity began because Jesus' followers spread His word about God.
